In my family, there is a famous story. The first Christmas after my parents got married, my Dad woke up and saw that my Mom had filled his stocking with elaborate, thoughtful gifts…..and he had a total of zero stocking gifts for her. My Dad panicked. He raced around the house and collected the best items he could find to fill her stocking before she woke up – some hard candy, an orange, a pen from his company, his business card, and the church program from the previous night’s Christmas Eve mass.
